Drone for an Event

Nobody can deny that drones take the most amazing footage especially on wedding and birthday parties. But before you hire a drone operator, consider the things listed below to ensure your event’s success.

First, be flexible with the time and date as much as possible.

It is pretty obvious - drones cannot be flown out on a bad weather. Before looking into drone operators in your local area, try to check on the weather forecast of that particular week.
If it states that you should expect rainstorm blows anytime during the week then have the event or photo shoot postponed.

Make sure that your schedule will fall on a sunny or cloudy day because a rained or winded out day wont get you a chance to make use of the drone.

If you are hiring a drone for your wedding day, we will assume that you wont have too much wiggle room when it comes with the schedule.

If you are really persistent on hiring a drone operator for your event, there is somehow a way on how to go about it. If the rain will arrive in the morning, you can have your drone footage taken at night.

If you get lucky and the sun is out during the day, then there’s no problem. Both the sunrise and the sunset produce beautiful colors so it does not matter what time of the day you have your shots taken.

Second, brainstorm the shots you would want to have.

Before you hire a drone for your event, do a little bit of research and look for possible shots that you find stunning.

As soon as you have chosen a couple, discuss them with your drone operator and ask if they can achieve the specific shots you like. You can also ask the pilot for recommendations on the angles that will produce good aerial footage.

Third, make sure you fly the drone on a safe area

It is not advisable to have the drones flying overhead a large crowd. Photographers or operators of drones for events know the best and worst places to shoot footage.

Let them do their job and do not demand a footage where it would be unsafe. If you do, there might be unpleasant consequences and you would not want that for your event, would you?

Fourth, there are different types of drones

There are arsenal that aerial photographers use that would only cost you less but stillcapture the best videos and pictures.

However if by any chance you would want a Hollywood-caliber video and pictures for your event, you would need to book a more expensive and sophisticated rig.

The high-end drones carry high-end cameras and they demand a high-end price as well. Check the portfolio of your aerial photographer and ask for the price of his or her packages.

Lastly, Negotiate

If you are looking into a potential ongoing work, do not hesitate to ask for package or bulk rate. Drone operators usually accommodate bulk and ongoing work and they are very willing to cut down their price for multiple packages.

Most of them also have discount rates for different type of shoots like on the day of the party, promotional videos or 3D modeling.

Make sure that you relay to your drone operator your preferences and you’ll be well on your way to making your event a huge success!

I like that you mention that photographers or drone operators know the best places to shoot to ensure everyone's safety. I've always thought aerial photography was such a cool way to capture something from an entirely new perspective, so I've been wanting to hire one for an event I have coming up. It's important to me that I hire a professional who knows what they're doing to get the best shots.

Your advice to research the area and look for possible shots that you find stunning is a good idea. This could help you when you talk to the aerial photographer so that they know what you want. When choosing an aerial photographer, you'd probably want to find someone who communicates well and who have taken similar shots so that you can talk to them and ensure they're able to provide you with the quality images you want.
