Anchorage the largest city in Alaska combines both the beauty of an urban world with the serene, rugged, natural environment. It’s at this urban city that an Alaska adventure enthusiast can spot some of the following five wild animals.
Black bears
Black bears are some of the prominent wildlife to see in the Anchorage area, this urban city is considered to be located at the heart of a bear country, therefore, viewing them is guaranteed.

Though they prefer forested areas, black bears are also attracted by human communities due to the availability of food sources such as pet food and trash. They can be sported between Portage and the Knik River and including Chugach State Park.
Brown bears
In summer, they can be spotted in areas such as Eagle River or areas adjacent to Chugach State Park.
Moose
Moose one of the largest of the deer family is one of the wildlife that can be easily spotted in urban Anchorage and is easily recognizable by their antlers usually carried only by the males.

They are mostly found in Anchorage’s two main creeks Campbell and Chester. The best time to spot them is around dusk, a lovely way to enjoy Alaska adventures.
It is at summer that Alaska adventures seeking individuals can enjoy salmon fishing during the annual king salmon derby. There are also viewing platforms that present onlookers with spectacular views as they watch salmons crowd the waterway while swimming upstream.
These white creatures of the sheep family are most recognizable by the male’s curled horns; they mostly inhabit Alaskan ranges and mountains and are numerous in Chugach State Park in Anchorage.
They can be spotted at Anchorage Bowl hillsides and they often at times come down to the lower elevations to find mineral deposits. |
One such mineral lick is on Seward Highway at Windy point and is considered one of the favorite viewing areas.
